The University of Texas at Dallas (“UTD” or the “University”) is committed to providing support and resources for its pregnant and parenting students, faculty and staff in accordance with Title IX of the Higher Education Amendments of 1972 (“Title IX”); the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (“PWFA”); Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (“Section 504”); the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended (“ADA”); the Texas Education Code, Section 51.982; the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978; and Section 7(r) of the Fair Labor Standards Act (“FLSA”); and other applicable federal and state laws.

In support of this, please see the below information regarding services and resources available to pregnant and parenting UTD students and employees.

For Students

Self-Identification

Pregnant and parenting students are encouraged to complete the Pregnant and Parenting Self-Identification Form. Submitting this form allows for a coordinated University effort to help facilitate support for pregnant and parenting students, such as early registration for parenting students and accommodations for pregnant students. For more information about resources and support available to pregnant and parenting students, see UTD’s Pregnancy and Parenting Resources Guide.

Student Parent Liaison

Parenting students have access to a University parenting Student Liaison, who can provide parenting students information regarding support services and other available resources. For more information, contact the Title IX Coordinator at 972-883-2306 or TitleIXCoordinator@utdallas.edu.

Early Registration for Parenting Students

Parenting students are eligible for early registration for courses to the extent others have access to early registration of those same courses. To determine if you are eligible for early registration, complete the Pregnant and Parenting Self-Identification Form. For more information about resources and support available to pregnant and parenting students, see UTD’s Pregnancy and Parenting Resources Guide.

Accommodations for Pregnant Students

Students who are pregnant or have pregnancy-related conditions should contact the Title IX Coordinator at TitleIXCoordinator@utdallas.edu to initiate a request for pregnancy-related accommodations. The Title IX Coordinator, or their designee, will discuss the request with the student, including any medical documentation the student may need to submit, then engage in an interactive process with the student and the instructor(s) regarding the implementation of approved accommodations. For more information, see the Pregnancy and Parenting Resources Guide.

Leaves of Absence

UTD pregnant and parenting students may be eligible for certain excused absences and/or a leave of absence for a reasonable duration depending on the circumstances. To determine if you are eligible for excused absences and/or a leave of absence, complete the Pregnant and Parenting Self-Identification Form. For more information about excused absences and/or requesting a leave of absence, see the Pregnancy and Parenting Resources Guide.

Financial Aid

All pregnant and parenting students are encouraged to contact the Office of Financial Aid at 972-883-2941 or financial-aid@utdallas.edu for assistance with any financial questions or concerns. For more information, see the Pregnancy and Parenting Resources Guide.
